English Academy

Explore a unique part of England on an intensive programme of 15 hours' English tuition plus engaging Active English study trips (total 20 hours).

While many students focus on our intensive English Academy, others choose to broaden their skills by joining our residential sports camp or our specialised coding and robotics academy on the same Shrewsbury campus.

Why Choose This Programme?

At Shrewsbury we offer 3 academies on one campus. You can choose a different option each week or continue with one throughout your stay:

Wide mix of nationalities including British children - our resident English Student Hosts.

Restricted access to mobile phones.

  • English Skills

On arrival, you'll be given a written and oral test and placed into an English Skills class appropriate for your age and level

Develop core skills as you communicate effectively in spoken and written English. Classes are lively, interactive and fun e.g. Enter the Shrewsbury 'modern monument' competition - research local sights, collaborate on an idea for a new statue in the town square. Will your idea be selected?

  • English Workshop

In these fun, task based sessions, you'll explore new topic areas. Learn through researching, discussing, collaborating and creating

Workshop topics vary week to week e.g. British Quiz, Code Crafters, Nature ID Challenge, TED talks.

Each week choose a workshop that interests you.

  • Active English

Visit Shrewsbury town centre with your teacher. Explore British culture as you practise your English with friendly local residents. You'll be amazed at how your confidence grows.

    Projects may include:

Local adventures: Discover Darwin's birthplace and learn about architectural styles from the Norman era to now!

Art & Culture: Take in an exhibition at the local gallery, compare the works, write your own reviews

Food lovers: Explore a supermarket and plan a British meal using local ingredients.
