Teaching Programme

A typical week of English tuition at Collingham Teens

  • We will send you a written placement test to do online before arrival
  • Monday morning - you'll be given an oral grading test and placed in class that suits your age and level of English
  • Tuesday or Wednesday - you’ll visit a local museum with your teacher e.g. Natural History Museum, Science Museum, V&A
  • Thursday - you’ll be working on a group project with students of other nationalities
  • Friday - you'll present your project to your parents, the school and guests at the end-of-week presentation. You'll gain confidence and develop important presentation skills

Here are some of the fun, yet challenging projects students have done before:

Reporting from the wild

Taking inspiration from the Natural History Museum, present your own live TV show! Interview endangered animals about the changes they are experiencing in their habitats. Learn new vocabulary and talk about ideas and opinions.

Inventions which changed the world

After exploring the Science Museum, choose an iconic design and work on an updated version using new technology or sustainable materials. Why is it useful and how could it improve our world? Work on grammar and language structures to talk about past, future, hypothesis and probability.

Theatre through time

Following the study trip to the Victoria & Albert Museum, research different theatre genres. In small groups, write a script for a short scene based on a theatre genre of your choice. Film your movie or act out the scene live in front of the school and parents. Gain confidence using narrative tenses, modal verbs and expand vocabulary related to theatre and film.
