About English Student Hosts

Up to 10% of students at our residential centres are British children and teenagers - our fabulous English Student Hosts!

Who are they?

English Student Hosts are talented boys and girls (the same age as you) who come from all over the UK.
They live with you on campus, sharing accommodation, and normally stay for two weeks.

They have been carefully selected for their friendliness, confidence and interest in making new friends from all around the world. They wear blue T-shirts/hoodies to be easily recognisable.

A Day in The Life of an English Student Host

English Student Hosts share everything that goes on in busy summer school life. They are ready to guide you, listen to you and help you practise your English. When you first arrive at the centre, our English Student Hosts are there to welcome you and show you around.

If you have any questions, they're there to help you. If you don't understand something, they'll try to explain it to you.

English Student Hosts Live Amongst You

Our immersive courses combine learning English with a great "British" experience. You'll be learning new skills, visiting new places and enjoying new British experiences - all with your new English friends.

  • In the classroom:
English Student Hosts help you practise your English. In some classes you work on projects in small groups, in others you may be working in pairs. If you are taking the Trinity GESE exam, they may help you prepare for it.
  • At mealtimes:
English Student Hosts sit with you at mealtimes so you have lots of opportunities to speak English with native speakers throughout the day, helping you to use colloquial language with confidence.
  • During social time:
They participate in all the activities with you. They may be in your team to help you win an exciting team game.
  • On excursions:
They join you on excursions, helping you understand more about British history and culture, and where to find the best shops.
  • In houses:
As they sleep in the same accommodation you may be sharing a room with a new English friend. After a busy day there is often free time in houses to relax and chat about your day - all in English.

English Friends for Life

Many international students stay in contact with our English Student Hosts long after summer school is over.  Who knows - one day your new English friends may come to visit you in your own country.
